In 1986, founder Patrick Verbunt opened a location for parties and meetings in his home on Bredaseweg. He later expanded with a conservatory, where the restaurant was established, and added rooms to Auberge du Bonheur. Ten years later, in 1996, a new chapter was written right next door with the opening of the four-star boutique hotel of the same name with 36 rooms. This hotel was fully renovated in 2015 and remains one of Bonheur’s icons.
Following the passing of Patrick Verbunt in 2010, Ton Gimbrรจre took over the reins. Under his leadership, Bonheur grew into a versatile hospitality group with several unique locations in and around Tilburg. From restaurants and a hotel to event venues and collaborations with cultural and sporting partners: Bonheur became a household name in the region.
Our creativity is reflected in the packages we put together and the surprising ideas we translate into custom solutions. To realize this creativity, we regularly emerge with unique concepts. In the past, we have welcomed you to pop-up restaurants such as the Rad van de Liefde, Bonheur Botst, Dinner in the Sky, Bonheur duikt weer op, The Pink Chapel, and Cirque du Bonheur. The Auberge Sunday Sessions from the COVID-19 period, where guests were treated to culinary delights during concerts by top Dutch artists in Tilburg’s most beautiful garden, also remain a cherished memory. Bonheur continues to innovate and provides surprises time and again!

As General Manager of Bonheur Horeca Groep, Tim Wijdemans continues the work of Verbunt and Gimbrรจre, together with Commercial Director Nicky Foesenek and Operations Director Briene Brienissen. What makes them special is that all three began their careers at Bonheur as interns. This not only underlines the value of training within the organization but also shows that there are plenty of opportunities for growth. Within Bonheur, talent is spotted, nurtured, and encouraged, giving employees the space to develop. Ambition is taken seriously and linked to trust and responsibility. Thus, the careers of these three directors serve as an inspiring example for current and future generations of employees.
Meet the teamMore than 120 permanent employees work daily to provide guests with an unforgettable experience. This includes 15 young people with a distance to the labor market, a valuable part of our team that we are proud of. In addition, we can count on a flexible shell of over 200 on-call workers who support us during busy times and major events. We believe that guests can only truly enjoy themselves if our employees do too. Pleasure and pride in their work form the basis for the hospitality and service for which Bonheur is known.
